Yes. Here's how:
Mobile:
From the left sidebar open Coinomi's "Settings" and select "Manage wallets"![]() | Tap the wallet whose password you forgot and select "Recovery Phrase", or do any other action where your password is required | Enter the wrong password twice, then select the "FORGOT PASSWORD" link that will appear at the bottom of the screen ![]() |
Desktop:
From the bottom left corner select "Settings" then "Manage Wallets"![]() | Click on the wallet whose password you forgot and select "Change password"![]() | Click on "Forgot password"![]() |
After selecting the "forgot password" button, enter your recovery passphrase exactly as they were written to you when you first set up the app. Make sure all characters are lowercase, there is only one space between words and there are no extra spaces at the end. If your wallet also has a BIP39, enable the "advanced settings" under the phrase and select the BIP39 option to enter the exact one you have protecting your wallet. Once your recovery phrase is accepted you can choose a new password to encrypt your wallets.
If you don't have your Recovery Phrase backed up, please read: I've lost both my Recovery Passphrase and my Coinomi app password. Are my funds lost?
Password requirement
When setting a password in Coinomi, the only requirement is that the password must be 10 or more characters in length. There are no limitations regarding upper/lowercase, numbers, symbols, etc.
I never set a password, but now the app is asking for one!
The desktop version always required a password, it was never possible to create a wallet without setting a password. If you installed Coinomi on iOS or Android before 2019 and never set a password in the first place kept it installed on the same device, a security update automatically protected your wallets with the password "coinomi" (all lowercase). In this case please use the password "coinomi" to unlock your wallet. After making sure that your recovery phrase is correctly backed up, please change your password to a value only you know. On iOS every time you open the app you should see a warning that your password was set to that value. On Android you should see that warning any time your password is requested.
Possible errors when resetting the password:
Please note, the desktop or iOS versions may have different error messages, but all the possible error causes are listed below.
- "The recovery phrase entered does not belong to this wallet. Check if you need to enter a BIP39 passphrase"
This error means that you are using a recovery phrase different from the one set in that wallet. The recovery phrase may be associated with a different account, or you used the incorrect BIP39 option. Please try again and make sure that each word is spelled correctly and that this is the phrase associated with the account in question. Make sure you only select the "BIP39" option if you have one set (it is not related to your normal password), and that not even a single character is wrong in the BIP39 passphrase if you had one set.
- "Invalid phrase"
Solution 1 - incomplete phrase: make sure you're entering all words of your Phrase. If you haven't entered all the words yet, keep typing the next words using the blue keyboard just like you did initially. Coinomi will make room for more words as you type.
Solution 2 - words in the wrong order: double check your backup. Mixing up the order of words will make the Phrase invalid. It's only possible to restore access to coins when all the words are in the correct order. If you're entering the words exactly as in your backup, the backup itself could have the words in the wrong order. In this case the only solution is to try all possible combinations, but this can take millions of years.
Solution 3 - typo in at least one of the words: double check your backup, you could be making a typo. All words must be exactly correct. If you're entering all words exactly as in your backup, your backup itself likely has a typo. You can check the full list of supported words here looking for words on your list that you could have misspelled, for example from "grid - grit", "awake - aware", "bind - bird", "review - reveal".
- The keyboard does not let you write a word:
The blue in-app keyboard is programmed to only accept valid recovery words. If the word you are trying to write isn't accepted, it means you didn't copy your phrase correctly and you misspelled that word. You can see the full list of valid words here. Look for words that differ by one or two characters, words that sound similar to yours, or words that could have been autocorrected by "smart" keyboards when you originally backed up your Phrase.
Support website password
You may or may not have an account on this support website. These accounts are used exclusively for contacting the support staff and keeping track of opened support tickets. Any options you see here to reset your password are only valid for the website's account. It is completely unrelated to your wallets in the app, and will not be able to reset your password there. To change the password in the app your recovery phrase is essential.
